We spent the night of July 18-19 at the 2nd
Inverness (Kingsmill) Scout Hall in Inverness - our thanks to the
Scout Group for putting us up for the night.
Our first stop the next morning was the Glenfiddich Distillery in
Dufftown for a distillery tour, followed by a great lunch at their
restaurant. |
|
After lunch we drove through the beautiful Speyside countryside to
the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford. Our Instant Expert for the
day let everyone know what to expect, and then the Scouts split up
to explore the museum. |
British sports cars were, of course, much in evidence. |
|
|
The museum had a very expansive view of "Transport" -
although I suppose the Doctor does use his TARDIS for transport
through time and space... |
...and there is a Dalek being transported in the metal suit. |
Tanks are always a hit, big or small. |
The biggest Juke Box you ever saw! |
We arrived at Templars' Park Scout Camp in Maryculter, Aberdeenshire,
in the late afternoon.
The White House, our home for the night, is a former manse
(clergyman's house) dating back to the sixteenth century. |
The group enjoyed a great meal of Indian tapas in Peterculter. |
The Camp Shop was open when we returned from dinner, and we bought
out their collection of old British Scout books. One of the Scouts
got a quiz book of "things Scouts ought to know" - circa
1963. The group had great fun trying to figure out the answers -
only slightly helped by those of us who were actually around in
1963. |
